Cabarrus County Commissioners will hold their monthly Regular Meeting on Monday, September 21, at the Cabarrus County Government Center in downtown Concord.
Also that night, a special meeting has been called for 5 p.m. before the Regular Meeting to discuss a resolution for a business development grant and tax reduction fund.
Both meetings will air live on CabCo TV (Spectrum Channel 22) and livestream at cabarruscounty.us and youtube.com/cabarruscounty.
The Regular Meeting starts at 6 p.m., and commissioners will vote on a variety of items discussed at the September 8 Work Session.
During that meeting, the board:
Discussed a resolution to move the County’s revaluation schedule from January 1, 2028, to January 1, 2029, and set subsequent reappraisals for every four years. The most recent revaluation took effect in January 2024. Revaluation is the process of establishing an appraised market value for real property, including land and structures. The County Assessor’s office performs the appraisals for real estate parcels in Cabarrus County. North Carolina law requires countywide property revaluations at least once every eight years. Cabarrus has adopted the four-year schedule to more accurately reflect the ever-changing real estate market.
Heard from Resource Conservation Easement Specialist Amy Cook on two grant awards. The Soil and Water Conservation District received nearly $375,000 through the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The first grant of $17,000 will help Soil and Water to conduct a community service survey. The second award of $357,851.50 will be used for a conservation easement for Helms Red Barn Farm. No County match is required for the grants.
Heard from Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Scott Zeman about a $4,000 donation from Subaru of Concord to the Cabarrus County Animal Shelter. The funds will help stage community vaccine clinics and fee-waived adoption events this fall. No County match is required.
Heard from Library Director Melanie Holles on an initiative to support Library Card Signup Month. During September, Cabarrus libraries are waiving the $2 fee to replace lost library cards. Normally, the fee helps pay for the cost of the card. The library averages about 70 replacement cards each month. As always, first-time library cards are free for Cabarrus County residents. The board will also hear a proclamation recognizing Library Card Signup Month.
The September Regular Meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 21 at 6 p.m. The special meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Both meetings will take place in the commissioner’s chambers at the Cabarrus County Government Center in downtown Concord.
Residents can livestream commissioner meetings from the homepage at cabarruscounty.us or YouTube (@CabarrusCounty). Meetings also air on CabCo TV (Spectrum Cable Channel 22).
